Frequently Asked Questions

Who does the MW Fund support?

The primary mission of the MW Fund is to support individuals who have suffered a severe spinal cord injury and are in need of financial assistance to begin and/or continue specialized rehabilitation.

Additionally, the MW Fund supports the University of Louisville Epidural Stimulation Research Trial by donating a fixed financial contribution each year to the University. The University will allocate those funds to support the living expenses of selected participants.

The MW Fund does not make direct financial contributions to individuals.

Do I qualify for financial assistance through the MW Fund?

If you are an individual who has suffered a severe spinal cord injury and are looking to attend specialized rehabilitation or to continue a specialized rehabilitation program but are in need of financial assistance, you qualify. Individuals must apply by completing our online application and providing the required documentation.

Do I have to attend Journey Forward/live in Massachusetts in order to receive financial assistance?

You do not have to attend Journey Forward or live in Massachusetts to qualify for financial assistance. Individuals applying will need to provide information regarding the rehabilitation facility they wish to attend/are currently attending in order for the MW Fund to coordinate.

When do applications open/close?

Our online application opens at the beginning of summer and closes at the end of summer. Application announcements and official deadlines will always be updated on our website, social media channels and provided in our email blasts. You can continue to check our application page to learn more details here.

How is financial assistance distributed?

Financial assistance is allocated towards each individual’s rehabilitation program. The MW Fund will coordinate directly with each specialized rehabilitation facility to ensure those funds are applied to the individual’s rehab program.

How will I know if my application has been received?

Each application is logged as soon as it is submitted through our official website. Please only apply online through our application system as email requests are not considered official applications. You must also submit your income verification forms as part of the application process, applicants who do not complete that section will not be considered. You can apply online through our website here.

When will I be notified if I’ve been selected?

The MW Fund will make multiple announcements on our website, social media channels, and email as an application deadline reminder. After we have officially closed the application window and every submission is carefully reviewed, each individual who has been selected will be contacted directly with the contact information provided.

Can I apply more than once?

Yes. We encourage individuals to continue to apply when applications open each year.

I or someone I know has suffered an SCI, do you provide any additional resources?

We are focused on our mission and cannot provide additional resources at this time.

Where can I donate?
